With a lot of new faces, the junior 1st team made great strides during the year.

It was a bit of a stop start season, as there was not a match on every fixture date, which delayed the team gelling together. However with many of the squad playing in the U14 County League as well, by the end of the season the improvement was clear to see. The team faced tough challenges in the NWKL, playing in the U16 division despite the majority of the team still being U14 and, although they only won one match, many of the others were very close.

In defence Sadie had a great season and was a real key player for the team. As she gained confidence she really organised the defensive end and brought the ball through the court well. She gained a well deserved promotion to the senior 5th team. She was partnered in defence with Mollie, who despite trialling as a shooter, really took on her new position with focus and determination, and her performance improved with every game.

After Sadie'e promotion, Georgina, who had also shown a lot of improvement during the course of the season, stepped into the defensive circle, where her determination and good court attitude were a real asset.

Grace always displays great fight and a never say die attitude, and with great stamina and her long arms she threatens every pass. She also has a lot of speed through the court. Charlotte was one of the most experienced players and has great energy and determination, and her footwork has much improved. They were joined in the centre court by Shannon (a well deserved promotion from the 2nd team) who makes a lot of interceptions, always chases down every ball, and gets her feet round quickly to defend the pass.

The team had an abundance of shooters, starting with Pia, the most experienced of the bunch. Pia is a quiet player with a beautifully relaxed shooting style. Her drive has improved (although still room for more improvement!) and she makes good choices in her moves, which aren't always seen. Fern has developed a super physical presence on the court. Her positioning and driving is controlled, her vision has improved and the shot is now solid. They were joined by Paige, following promotion from the 2nd team, who also has good vision, plays sympathetically with her shooting partner, and is a very accurate shooter. She was a deserving winner of most improved junior player, with her can do attitude and willingness to learn really paying dividends.

The junior 1st team player of the year was Jemma. The youngest in the squad, Jemma is an excellent shooter, but is also equally comfortable in the centre court, and is always positive wherever she is asked to play. She is very energetic and gives her all in training and matches. She listens to the coaches, has really improved her skills and tactical play, and has a great awareness of what is required from the different positions on court.

Well done to all the young players in this team, we look forward to seeing your further progression and some promotions into the senior squads next season.
