The U14 squad has shown considerable improvement over the course of the season in the KCJL, which finished today with the end of season tournament.

The top 9 U14 clubs in Kent compete in the Kent County Junior League from September to March. Club U14's were blessed with a multitude of shooters but were somewhat lacking in defence at the start of the season.

However many of the squad rose to the challenge of playing an unfamiliar position, and this good team ethic mean that we have discovered some great new defenders. Mollie has really taken up the mantle at GK, forging an excellent partnership with Sadie. These two have been ably supported by Grace and Shannon (plus others) throughout the season, with both Grace and Shannon turning in strong centre court performances.

With a big loss to Telstars on the first day, it looked like it was going to be a tough year, but the squad settled down quickly and soon began to work together well. Paige and Fern were soon combining really well in the shooting circle and Pia put in some very accurate shooting performances. Club then really turned on the gas winning their next 4 matches before meeting top of the table CFX. Despite losing the team then picked themselves up to beat Hornets in the next match.

Lauren was taking on the responsibility in the centre court and together with Emma and Jemma, there were some dynamic passages of play. Hollie soon joined the squad - adding another shooter to the mix, and she slotted in well. A close loss to Wealden was the only blot on the copybook until we met CFX again. The improvement throughout the squad really showed through as the team fought out a really exciting 26-26 draw.

On the last day Club had to play Breakaways, which we had only won by one goal previously, and again this match turned into a nail biter, finishing in another draw 20-20. Unfortunately the team seemed to go to sleep in their other match that day against Telstars, losing heavily.

So the squad finished in a really good third place, and with 5 players still in this age group next year, things are looking very positive.

In the tournament coach Teresa took the opportunity to try out some different combinations in preparation for the Regional U14 tournament. The players worked hard all day and finished in a very creditable 5th place.
