Experience shows as the 2nds suffer defeat to Vibrant

The match was against an experienced Vibrant team, packed with relatives of Club members!

Club had another good and focused warm up, and this paid dividends as they came out full throttle in the first quarter. Megan Melbourne and Bethany Cownden were combining well and popping in shots from all over the circle as Club went into an early lead.

Lauren Williams and Liz Roche were working well in the defensive circle and the pressure they put on meant that the Vibrant shooters were not as accurate as usual. Debbie Greenslade was also working hard in centre court against the athletic Vibrant centre, and forcing errors.

Vibrant made some changes at quarter time, and Club’s concentration levels fell as passes started to go astray. Lucy McCarthy at WD got a grip on her opposite number who had been dangerous in the first quarter, which allowed Lauren to pick up a number of tips and interceptions. However the Vibrant shooters had found their range and rebounds were hard to come by. Debbie and Mel Steingass were working hard around the circle edge to get good feeding opportunities, but the shooting did start to go off under pressure.

At half time changes were made by both teams, with Jayne Goldsbrough coming on for Club. Club’s play was varied in the quarter, with it being mostly hard work to get the the ball to the shooters, but occasionally the game opening up with great straight line balls through the court and into the circle, where Megan's fantastic movement and strong drives were proving hard for the opposition to handle.

In the final quarter, the commitment by Club did not drop, and a full court defence forced several errors, and allowed them to come back at Vibrant, with the final scoreline probably did not truly reflect how tight the match felt.
