The 2nd team ran out comfortable winners against Wealden 2, in the battle of the second teams.

Life in NWKL Division 1 was always going to be tough for the 2nd team, and any victories are going to be especially hard won. This clash against Wealden 2, the only other club with a second team in the top flight, was simply a must win match for the team still reeling from the injury to Leo Bacchus which has ruled her out for the rest of the season.

The first quarter proved to be cagey as Club did not settle down into a smooth rhythm immediately. However in the defensive circle, Liz Roche and Lauren Williams were putting a lot of pressure on the Wealden shooters, resulting in an unusually high number of missed shots. With Lauren picking up most of the rebounds, this allowed Club to take an 11-7 lead at quarter time.

In the second period, the attack really opened up. Mel Steingass was showing good vision around the circle edge and working the ball patiently into the shooters, but also seeing some great early feeds in. Jayne Goldsbrough was on storming form, and varying her play, sometimes holding space and other times coming out of the circle to create space for Megan Melbourne to drive in.

Debbie Greenslade was dominant throughout the match, hitting the top of the circle and feeding well, as well as putting in a huge defensive effort against the sometimes overly physical Wealden centre. At half time Club were up 26-16.

The Wealden shooters found their range in the 3rd quarter, but Lauren's towering defence was still causing all sorts of problems for the usually confident GA, as she was pulled numerous times for held ball. Lucy McCarthy was engaged in a tussle with the WA, marking her incredibly tightly, so keeping her out of the game as well as making some super interceptions. At the end of the quarter, Wealden had snuck a couple back with the score at 35-27.

In the final quarter Club powered on. Jayne and Megan were combining really well in the circle, with quick hands and great shooting keeping the goals coming for Club. The front court defence of Megan, Mel and Debbie had really ground Wealden down in the middle of the court, and Club extended their lead finishing the match 47-35.
