After beating their second team in the last round, Club were keen to repeat the feat against Wealden 1.

The second team were not focussed enough at the start of this match, and poor movement and bad passing allowed Wealden to quickly power into a 5 goal lead. Luckily everyone woke up and then started to play as they had finished the last game.

During the first quarter, Bethany Cownden and Jayne Goldsbrough looked unsettled in the shooting circle together and together with some careless feeding this meant that it wasn't until the end of the period that they found their groove. Luckily, in defence, Liz Roche and Lauren Williams were working well together, with their partnership strengthening - their communication was good, and the covering and switching meant that interceptions were being made. The quarter ended 12-7 to Wealden.

In the second quarter, the combination of Beth and Jayne really clicked into gear, with Beth scoring some great long range shots to keep the pressure on Wealden. Mel Steingass was making strong drives in the front court and she and Debbie Greenslade were taking the ball to the circle edge to give good feeds into Jayne, who was holding her space well. This proved to be a tight quarter, with both teams scoring 12 goals, and the end score being 24-19 to Wealden.

Megan Melbourne came on at GA at half time, slotting easily into the front court, and shooting very high averages. Unfortunately the Wealden shooters were also scoring from anywhere in the circle despite the best efforts of the defence to force them out. The front court defence was good, with Megan forcing errors and Mel taking some great interceptions. At the end of the quarter, Club were 8 goals down - 37-29.

However, Club felt that the game was still there for the taking and came out strong in the last quarter. Debbie, who had anchored the team throughout the match from the C position, powered on and her never say die attitude encouraged the others. Lucy McCarthy had got a tighter hold on the Wealden WA, who was their strongest player, and this was making it more difficult for them to bring the ball through the court quickly, and they only scored 6 goals in this quarter. Despite pulling a couple of goals back in the final quarter, the end result was 43-37 to Wealden.
