Curse of the 3rd quarter collapse strikes!

Coach Shirley Winsborrow reports:

The team started positively with some good defensive work from Denise Grant, Sadie Burch and Beth Rolf. Both Sadie and Beth were particularly useful in bringing the ball down court from turnovers and back-line passes.

The attack in the first half took time to settle. Some centre passes were somewhat laboured and the passage of play into our attacking circle was at times punctuated with errors. This improved as time progressed with better timing of moves and accuracy in passing. The whole team took on defending the ball all the way down court which helped to disrupt the rythym of the opposition. This restricted Swanley to just 7 goals in the first quarter and 6 goals in the second, and gave Club a 23-13 lead at half time.

In the 3rd quarter the team had to adjust to 3 new changes, however the team failed to support each other as a unit, and a lot of errors crept in. Our defending, both in and out of Swanley's attacking circle lost its intensity. Swanley scored 15 goals in the 3rd quarter to Club's 6.

This put Club under huge pressure in the last quarter and Swanley increased in confidence as they felt they stood a good chance of winning. Their shooters shot well throughout the second half and helped them to victory with a final score of 40 -36.
