After a late start of trying to find the missing umpire, Club powered off from the first whistle. Everyone worked well as a team getting the ball down to the attack. As the ball was flowing down court better and quicker the confidence of the team grew and more goals were scored. KCNC 3 won the first quarter 17-4.
Intensive defence work in training paid off as the 2nd quarter saw a lot of interceptions and tight marking from everyone on court. The circle defence ensured they set up and were ready for all rebounds, which proved effective, and the lead was increased to 32-9 at half time.
After two excellent quarters the 3rd team began to become tired and lose focus. It became harder to send the ball down court because players were not making themselves available by driving into open space. Nexus tried to make a comeback and stepped up their play. So, the two teams went into the final quarter with a reined in lead of 40-16.
Even though the Club had a comfortable lead, it wasn’t time to relax; Nexus were coming back hungry and fighting. So the team also had to up their game, as they were not safe yet. However, the gap was too great for Nexus and they could not pull it back. With Club still playing their best all the way to the very end, the final score was 48-26.
