Match report by Elena Salenius & Lois Marks

Despite a chatty start, club were soon focused and ready to win against Trinity 1. The first quarter saw the attack struggle to find space and deliver an accurate ball into the shooters; Alice Bartholomew at GS and Lois Marks at GA. However, the defence did well to bring the ball up the court quickly and efficiently, with Hannah Bartholomew at GD and Temi Adewumi at WD to win the quarter 10-6.

With no changes made and a good team talk, passes into the shooters from Lily Whitehead at WA and Lola Wheeler at C were improved in the second quarter, giving Lois and Alice the opportunity to put more shots up. Lois was also working very well on driving onto the ball on centre passes. Down in the defence end, Denise Grant at GK was working well with Hannah to get the rebounds and send the ball out of the goal third. We ended the quarter 10 goals up, winning 24-14.

At half time, Elena Salenius came on at WD and gave a good man-to-man defence to Trinity’s WA. Denise took the backline passes quickly and with the defence timing their moves well, the ball was often brought up court in a straight line. Although Alice and Lois were shooting from various places in the circle, their shots were consistently successful and so we ended the quarter winning, 37-22.

In the last quarter, a few changes were made bringing Becca Clayton and Pia Hooker on to the court. At GD, Becca made good interceptions in the goal third, preventing Trinity from scoring a few goals. Lily and Lola worked very well together to pass the ball down to Pia, who had great timing when driving out of the circle. The team continued to display hard work, which paid off and KCNC finished with a good win, 46-34.
