Starting Seven: GS Lauren Rainer, GA Alice Bartholomew, WA Lois Marks, C Lola Wheeler, WD Elena Salenius, GD Becs Clayton, GK Denise Grant

The third team started the match with determination despite taking a while to adjust to the physicality of Crystal Palace's circle defence and finished the quarter 7 - 10.

The second quarter did not go well; the shooters struggled to find space and together with indecisive front court play meant a large number of turnovers for Crystal Place which they converted with relative ease despite the efforts of our defence. With only three goals scored in the second quarter it was doubtful whether the team would take a point from the match. Half time score 10 - 28.

At half time Lois Marks moved to GA and Alice Bartholomew moved to WA. With renewed energy the team started to make inroads into the deficit, Lauren Rainer made some well-timed moves and settled into the shooting role soaking up with an extremely calm demeanour in her second match. Tighter defensive work by Elena Salenius had an impact together with some incredibly quick footwork by Lois Marks in the circle. Alice Bartholomew made a positive impact as WA with considered feeding and weill timed moves. The team won the third quarter 10 - 6 and the score at 3/4 time 20 - 34.

In the last quarter, Lola Wheeler's fitness showed and she kept the ball moving at pace up court with assertive moves and defensively came out with two huge (textbook) interceptions giving the team a massive boost. The defensive unit of Rebecca Clayton and Denise Grant tirelessly made the most of their opportunities and forced errors. Fourth quarter score 7 - 11. (Final result 27 - 45)

A hugely valuable two points earned from the match, despite the big margin, with the team continuing to demonstrate improvment. Whether it will be enough to secure a division five spot next season remains to be seen - next two matches will be crucial if the team want to finish their season on a high with it all to play for.
