Match summary by Alice Bartholomew

The 3rd team’s result on Saturday 21st September was a good start to the season. In the first quarter, the first couple of minutes were a little frantic, but we soon slowed down and controlled the play. Because of this, the ball started to run fluently from defence all the way to attack allowing the shooters to put the shots up, making the score 11-10 at the end of the quarter.

After the first quarter, the play deteriorated a little as the ball was intercepted by the opposition, particularly around the circle, we were then unable to bring the ball back up the court. Therefore at half time we were losing 15-17. In the third quarter, the play had improved as there were more changes of direction and big drives to create space, allowing more chances into the shooting circle. However, we remained 3 goals down after the third quarter.

The final quarter was a massive improvement from the whole team. Our defence had been consistent throughout the match, but in the final quarter interceptions were plentiful, and the first and second stage defence worked well. Also, the ball moving down the court was fluent and there was good eye contact between the players allowing ease of the ball in to the attacking circle. Although the defence from the opposition were a physical challenge, KCNC brought the game back and our determination was seen as our final score was 32-31 to Club. Well done girls, especially to Lois Marks who won man of the match.
