Battle for the third team in tough weather conditions

Club set out early Saturday morning in the cold weather and warmed up well. Everyone was focused and determined to win the first game of 2015.

The first quarter started and the attack tried to put to practice the centre passes they had learnt at training. However, Brooke (WA) and Temi (C) often found themselves in the same space. They both tried to use their speed to rectify this but sometimes the shooters were left without a person to pass to. It was extremely windy so Jess (GS) and Alice (GA) understandably struggled to settle the shots. The defence remained alert throughout and picked up on a few loose balls. At the end of the first quarter club were 1 down with a score of 1-2.

For the second quarter, no changes were made but the attack were told how to improve on their spacing. This seemed to make a big difference as the shooters were given more opportunities. Devon (WD) played a tight man to man game and this resulted in her getting some tips. This gave Club time to reposition. Eve (GK) and Rebecca (GD) began to jump for the rebounds and got a couple of turnovers. However, it was slightly crowded trying to bring the ball out of defence.

At half time, Skylar came into GK and instantly had a positive impact on the game. All of the defence worked hard against the tall shooters of Chislehurst 2. Jess and Emily both worked quickly around the shooting circle using lots of short passes in order to get closer to post. At the end of the third quarter club led 11-10.

Unfortunately, the weather continuously got worse and club struggled in the conditions. The shooters were working as well as they could under the circumstances but Club let a few balls go too easily. This resulted in Chislehurst taking the win 16-17. It was a tough match but all players were well spirited and ready for their next game.
