Match report by Skylar Collins

Club came on strong for the first quarter. The defence played well and Devon at GD managed many interceptions against the quick GA and Denise (GK) pressurising the GS. The centre court worked the ball down well with Jenny at C and Brooke at WA, to maximise Club's shooting opportunities. Alice(GA) and Emily(GS) made the most of this and everyone put on a tight man-to-man defence. Club were focused and continued to move well to leave Club 9-2 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter Eve moved to GK and put pressure on the ball in circle. Despite the strong start, Club began to slack in the second quarter, with everyone not being as alert as they should be. The shooters struggled to get free in the circle and the defenders found it difficult to keep in front of their players and go for the interception. In this quarter Lorikeets caught up by 3 but Club were still leading 12-8.

The third quarter saw some changes with Temi to C and Skylar at GD, as well as Jess to GA. Clubs performance did not improve in the third quarter and they let Lorikeets’ take control of the game. Throughout the court Club found it difficult to create space and drive onto the ball. The defence were unable to get interceptions from the attackers and the opposing team took advantage of this to win the quarter 10-5. The result at the end of the quarter was 17-18.

Coming on to the last quarter Club knew they had to focus and really push to bring back their lead. Although it was a close quarter Club dug in and worked well as a team from the get go. Maria (WD) was exceptionally alert during this quarter and managed many loose balls and tips to give club the best opportunity at winning. The centre court made dynamic moves throughout court to get the ball into the shooting circle, where shooters Jess and Emily persevered to get 9 goals to Lorikeets 5, meaning the final score was 26-23 to Club.
