Club went all out in the first quarter and kept the score level until a few silly mistakes crept in and Raiders managed to pull away. This left Club trailing 10-13 at the quarter time break. The starting seven stayed on for the second quarter and continued to play strongly. However the concentration was not what it needed to be especially as we were chasing. The attack of Dorothy Bryan and Jade Hierons were working well and getting in the goals however this wasn’t enough as we came out of the second quarter still trailing by 19-27.
Club needed to get focused and go all out if we were to close down on Raiders lead. With Ruth Dempsey coming on at GD and Alannah Martin switching to GS, the team came fighting back. The defence team of Tara Brydon, Ruth and Katie Hunt made a big impact due to the many interceptions that were made. With some top class shooting and feeding into the circle Club managed to win the quarter 14-7 and close the gap to just one, leaving the score going into the last quarter at 33-34.
This gave Club a massive confidence boost and everyone’s determination was sky high. Club were able to get the score to 40 all at mid-quarter with some great centre court work from Kirsty Hall and Charlie Penny. The enthusiasm and determination to win was now greater than ever from both the players and the side line. Some great shooting was taking place from Jade at GA but unfortunately due to the many screams coming from both teams side lines the astounding pressure got the better of everyone leading to less accurate shooting and silly mistakes. This inevitably affected the score and Club lost 40-43. However it was a classic match with great play all round. Well done to Jade who got player of the match from the other team and also well done to Ruth for her stylish and entertaining falls which yes everyone did see.
