After losing their first 3 games of the season Club were out to get the win they have been looking for, for so long. Their next match sees them facing Istead and to come away with the win Club knew they had to put all their efforts into the game.

Club had won the toss and had first centre which meant they could go all out and get the early lead. The shooters in the first quarter were Dorothy Bryan at GS and Alannah Martin at GA. They worked well together and with good work from the centre court led to Club scoring many goals. However Istead’s shooters were strong and they were following closely behind. The score going into the second quarter was 12-11 to Club.

An injury to Alannah meant that the shooting arrangement for Club had now changed with Jade Hierons replacing her at GA. This was not a problem for Club and they quickly adapted to the change as they needed to continue playing well and increase their lead. Club’s defence started to work out what the opposing shooters liked to do and keep the pressure on them which led to them only scoring 6 goals in the second quarter. Down the other end of the court Kirsty Hall at WA worked extremely well feeding the ball into the circle which allowing the shooters to continue scoring goals. The score at half time was 23-17. Club now had an even bigger lead but in order to keep it they needed to stay on top form.

In the 3rd quarter Club had to keep focus and work hard to stay ahead. No changes were made to the team so they could continue to work well together using straight line ball to bring the ball up court. The defence continued to keep the pressure on the attack and Ruth Dempsey at GD had some great interceptions, which meant that Club turned over the ball and sent it down to the attack allowing them to continue to raise the score. This was also contributed to by the many interceptions that Katie Hunt made at WD. The hard work put in by Tara Brydon put into the first half of the match paid off in the second half with the pressure getting to Istead’s shooters and front court leading to many drop balls and interceptions. Going into the final quarter Club had a lead of 11 and the score being 37-26.

Although Club had a lead of 11 they knew that it could easily be lost, so the team went all out with determination to keep their lead and try to win the game. The defence for the opposing team were strong however Club’s attack sustained a high level of play and kept scoring the goals that the team needed. This combined with good work from the centre court and the defence meant that Club came away with a lead of 10 and more importantly their first win of the season. The final score was 47-37. Well played everyone and well deserved.
