5. Volunteer Policy

Our Club is firmly committed to promoting netball to a high standard within a diversity of cultures, abilities and age ranges. It has existed since 1949 as one of the most experienced and successful clubs in Kent and prides itself in establishing a proficient volunteer workforce.

In line with our Equality Policy, we encourage volunteers from within the club and externally to a lesser extent. We also have links to the local County Sports Partnership scheme which serves as another source of recruitment.

We assess and screen our volunteers to ensure that their abilities and aptitudes meet the needs of all our club members. Our volunteers are DBS checked in compliance with England Netball recommendations. Each volunteer is issued with information on Safeguarding Young People and Adults at Risk and is expected to attend a Sports Coach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop where appropriate. Our Club’s website gives details of our Codes of Conduct as well as the Aims and Objectives of the club.

Our annual Action Plan details a training and monitoring programme which gives support and guidance to our volunteers. As a club, we encourage the sharing of good practice and team work. This helps to instil confidence and commitment within the workforce which in turn serves to realise the aims and objectives of the club.

Our volunteers are insured against public liability through England Netball’s insurance policy. Where expenses are incurred through courses, volunteers can claim reimbursement in line with the club’s policy as set out on our website. An annual allowance is set aside in our budget for this purpose. As a club we ensure that volunteers are represented at committee meetings. They are also able to liase readily with the Volunteer Coordinator.

We strongly value the input of our volunteer workforce, without which the club will be unable to function effectively. Good work is regularly acknowledged through verbal praise and encouragement. The total input of our volunteers is formally recognised at our annual Presentation Evening.
